My Zen View and Haiku - Recruiting Converts? - July 31, 2010

Zen Buddhists do not go about recruiting converts. When was the last time a Buddhist knocked on your door? Most people come to Zen Buddhism on their own while exploring the deeper nature of reality and the suffering caused by the duality of attachment and aversion.

The Dalai Lama has said that if your own faith tradition brings you peace and expands compassion toward others, then follow that faith. There is no need to change faith or become a Buddhist if your faith increases love and service. If people come to Buddhism and find it helpful, wonderful! But if they never embrace Buddhism and still live a life of compassion then that is perfectly fine, too.

A radiant world!
In the marketplace of faith,
You choose your own path.
