My Zen View and Haiku - Miracles - November 13, 2010

Miracles are what we create when we express compassion to all sentient beings and live a life of non-aggression and service. The word ‘miracle’ comes from Middle English, via old French from the Latin miraculum “object of wonder”, mirari “to wonder”, mirus “wonderful”. Given mankind’s history of violence and self-interest, serving and caring for others without expectation of anything in return would indeed seem an object of wonder.

A miracle is not a divine act but rather a serendipitous occurrence that is wonderful to observe and honor. We can create more miracles in life when we honor and serve one another.

An elder alone,
Visited by anyone,
Creates miracles.
