Evolution and Zen

In Buddhism, science as well as faith is necessary to arrive at truth. In isolation from the moral tenets of faith, science can cause great evil and in isolation from science, faith can contradict obvious reality. Buddhism accepts scientific explorations and theories and will adapt that acceptance as new theories are proposed and tested. Science and faith are not incompatible. It is how they are applied that makes the difference.

For a Zen Buddhist the underlying rationale of any science and faith discussion is based on how it eases suffering and the causes of suffering. That the Sun will burn out in 4-billion years in interesting, but it does not help a suffering child or person who feels alone today.

Have humans evolved?
War, hatred, love, compassion.
Perhaps yes and no.
