My Zen View and Haiku - Technology and Zen - March 6, 2010

The artist Pablo Picasso once said: "Computers are useless. They can only give you answers."

Technology can be a marvelous resource, but too often we become entranced with the latest application and replace engaging in life with YouTube, tweeting or updating our social networking page.

If we stay online and ensconce ourselves in a digital cubicle, we may forget the needs of our neighbors or the simple joys of a face-to-face conversation or a quiet walk with a loved one. Technology is just a tool, like a tea kettle. It is wonderful to use, but it is also quite helpful to put it away once in a while.

A petal falling
Softly conveys transcendence.
Turn off the machines.
