My Zen View and Haiku - Conscientious Objectors - October 16, 2010

Conscientious objectors are to be greatly respected and honored. Rather than participate in organized and ritualistic killing, they risk their freedom, and sometimes their lives, by refusing to kill or contribute to the insanity of war. In Buddhism, there is no such concept as a “just” war and one should never kill another human because of religious or geo-political reasons.

A conscientious objector does more than merely not participate in warfare; they often speak out against war and non-aggressively protest the political actions that inevitably lead to war and killing. Mankind’s love of killing seems innate but it can be overcome, one person at a time, when we commit to peaceful engagement and non-violent action. War is often rationalized, but it is never justified.

Eliminate war.
Honor the conscientious
Objector and bow.
